about Newspaper ads...

Here is a recent poster I did for Ascent.

In Print Media, on glossy, medium stock paper,

this poster is clear and crisp and easy to read.

Despite it's busy, quilt-like use of every square

inch of space, even the stiches-effect on the text

is clean and crisp at 229 dpi and 11 X 14 inches.

But Ascent wanted to do this poster as an ad in

the Jerusalem Post, and newspaper requirements

are another story....

Newspaper print is more absorbant than poster paper, so colors bleed.

The cheap, brownish paper stock makes colors look murkier.

It is also rare that a non-profit organization will merit a full-page ad.

All these differences require a newspaper ad to have lesser images, higher contrasting colors and greater information in a smaller space.

This poster needed to be reworked in a hurry for a paper ad and the busy, earth-toned background had to be sacrificed, and several images removed so as to increase the size of the Text. Newspaper ads must be strong in information, but with attention-gaining image and colors.

Let me know if one of the templates you are choosing is for a newspaper ad, so that such adjustments may be made.
